Xi’an warriors

Treasures of the Qin and Han dynasties

Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias).
March 2005

The most important pieces in the exhibition are the terracotta warriors of Qin Shihuan, from the mausoleum of Mount Li, supplemented with weapons, jade pieces and objects of the daily life of the two dynasties, with a total of 120 pieces. The entire front wall of the first space occupied by the figures of warriors, is presided by an illustration of Mount Li where the emperor´s mausoleum, still unexcavated, is protected by warriors as in the same excavation. The illustration is a reproduction of a watercolor painted expressly for the purpose of the exhibition. The great figures are protected by a low glass that enables them to be perfectly viewed.

Around the central space occupied by the warriors there are other areas that organise the space and accommodate other figures: the kneeling servants, water-bird handlers or the bronze chariot: These areas, framed by other large light boxes, make up all the scenography and contain texts and graphics, as well as illuminating the room indirectly.

The wall cabinets with smaller pieces have a box of regulated red light as a background. The whole architecture of the room is built around frames, similar to separating screens, reminiscent of oriental style buildings.

Las vitrinas murales, con las piezas más pequeñas, tienen como fondo una caja de luz roja regulada. Toda la arquitectura de la sala está construida con marcos, a modo de parabanes, que nos remiten a las construcciones orientales.
