Between worlds

Shamanism in Siberian towns

MUVIM. Diputación de Valencia. June 2013

The place in which the title of the exhibition situates us brings the original idea and the starting point for the design of the scenography, the exhibition areas and at the same time, the display cases which give them shape. Those other worlds suggest an ethereal place, found in one´s imagination, which is reached through trance and that only those initiated can access on that journey. That shamanic capacity of transit between worlds evokes a place without boundaries where the spirits and all the objects that populate the universe can be found. Objects that accompany the protagonist on his journey, and are at the same time, the very pieces on display.

The aim is a space where the pieces exhibited 'levitate' from their stands, and escape the volume of their urns, to relate with each other and to visually and physically occupy, together with the other pieces, the whole room, creating a unifying and inspiring universe that remains throughout the visit. So this room is conceived as the world inhabited by shamans, spirits and objects, and in which we enter, moving through it, surrounded by the exhibits and the musical landscape that accompanies us. The distribution of the windows in successive parallel lines, and their transparency allows the visitor to see through them and move around contemplating multiple points of view and proposes various visual relationships between objects, providing rhythm and enriching the visit.

The main feature for achieving aforementioned scenography is transparency and its various degrees and shades. The material which provides high transparency, and at the same time soft colors which give a suggestive lighting effect, is methacrylate in two versions: colorless and fluorescent. The intention is that the main elements that the eyes take in are the exhibits, wrapped in different levels of soft color and nuances that arise from the blends and framed by the light that is accentuated by song.
