Sorolla

A Garden to Paint

Centro Cultural Fundación Bancaja. July 2017

The exhibition displays Sorolla’s work using gardens as a model for his paintings. Particularly the garden in his residence in Madrid —today, the Sorolla Museum— where most of his works were painted. The pieces are grouped according to the three types of garden in the artist's house museum.

The general colour of the room, full of light, is broken up by some traces of blue on the walls, which brings dynamism to the space. The location of large images of the garden in strategic places of the rooms makes us feel that there is an opening to the outside, like a window facing the garden. The two video projections have a similar function, to give life and dynamism to two photographs of the time that merge with sketches and paintings by Sorolla
