Picasso

The Californie workshop (1955-1960)

Centro Cultural Fundación Bancaja. February 2010

Picasso worked from June 1955 to 1961 (one of the happiest times of his life) in the workshop of La Californie. The exhibition aims to recreate the experience of visiting the workshop through the drawings made by the artist himself of this space in Le Carnet de La Californie (Paris 1959), with the projection of the photographs that Lee Miller took of the workshop. The possibility to browse through some illustrated books and the prints he made in the engraving and lithographic workshop that he installed there, with the reading of some of the writings that he produced during those years, give us the possibility to become part of his creative habitat.

The projection (in high resolution, realistic and on a real-scale on a free-standing thin panel) opens a window into La Californie where we can appreciate objects, paintings, ceramics... and become familiar with its inhabitants.
