Space, time and the spectator

Facilities and new media in the IVAM Collection

IVAM. September 2006

The exhibition presents fifty-five pieces from the IVAM Collection. Different layouts are taken into consideration for the use of space, the idea of haphazard time, experienced and finite time and finally the figure of the spectator in his/her perception or reception of the work of art, through practices that attempted to change the relationships between them.

IVAM pieces are used as a common thread that serves the unprecedented relationship between the work and the specifically artistic spaces- the exhibition hall or studio, art and its relationship to the new surroundings which emerge from new media – the use of space - and the situation of the work installed in everyday areas which are invaded and affected by art: nature, street, architecture.

From these exhibition criteria of relationships between the work of art and place, the difficulty and sense of assembly arises, which was precisely to find the right place for each piece in the exhibition space without this or other essential pieces, interfering in the ideal interpretation of the work.
